The UB Men's Group
A violence prevention program from UB.
The UB Men's Group is a rape and sexual assault prevention education program that provides training, presentations, and awareness raising events with a focus on cultivating men as allies in preventing sexual violence.
The Men's Group is a peer-run, university-advised group sponsored by UB Student Affairs' Student Wellness Team. The group is comprised of men and women trained in peer education and advocacy.
The basic idea behind the Men's Group is that we can no longer view sexual violence as solely a women's issue. Sexual violence affects everyone, including men. With this program we hope to gather men that want to make a difference and will stand as a majority against the few that are committing these horrible crimes.
We operate this program with the understanding that the majority of sex crimes are committed by men. However, we also understand that it is a small number of men who are committing a large number of these crimes. The Men’s Group is here to show our community that sexual violence is unacceptable. Men have been silent about sexual violence for too long, and silence can be interpreted as complicity.
We believe that sexual violence affects all of us, so we are taking a stand for our whole community, for our friends, sisters, brothers, mothers, neighbors, partners, and girlfriends, and we are taking a stand for ourselves. The only way that rape and sexual violence will stop is when we come together and stop it together, and that means that good men need to stop doing nothing and start doing something by taking a stand. We hope that you will join us.
